VARIOUS ARTISTS ‘Zang Tumb Tuum Sampled’ (ZTT IQ6) **
“EXCERPTS FROM a couple of years. The sleeve is to include notes and suggestions and counternotes that, as usual, can be enjoyed by everyone — hurrah!” Hurrah? Ha! The usual drivel, the expected conceit, the unavoidable pretense.
Beneath a boorish screen of The Act Of Letting The Bath Water Out (and this is to include Andrew Poppy’s flightless beating wings), we find some M-I-C-K-E-Y-M-O-U-S-E Frankie, some quite unnecessary Propaganda, the sweatless, chestless geometric dance crop of Instinct and Anne Pigalle’s intriguingly exotic and ‘continental’ tales. These last two? Hurrah! The rest? The sterile fruits of foolish tryrany, the pompous reiteration of the commonplace.
“To strip our pleasures of imagination is to reduce them to their own dimensions, that is to say to nothing.”
