Big words on even bigger t-shirts are definitely this summer’s thing. In fact, seems like you can take any sail-sized singlet, bung some large black letters on it and (especially if it includes the legend “Frankie say”) someone’ll want to wear it. Trendy designer Katherine Hammett started all this off with a series of enormous tops emblazoned with anti-nuclear slogans (including the much copied “Choose Life”). Said shirts were then seen dwarfing the torsos of everyone from Frankie to Wham! to Boy George. Frankie leapt straight on to the bandwagon with their own series and “Relax” (again much imitated) became the word of the season. Meanwhile, every small clothes business in the land (and many of the pop groups) begun bunging out their own variations. And here’s a selection snapped in Carnaby Street…
