SOME TWO zillion T-shirts later, it finally looks as if ‘Relax’ is going to crack it for the Frankies in America. Mike Read’s favourite single first entered the Billboard chart at the beginning of April, last year, and after five weeks managed to nose its way up to No. 67 before plummeting back into the Mersey once more. ‘Two Tribes’ fared somewhat better. It first charted Stateside in mid-October and some nine weeks later clambered to No. 43 before hitting the skids.
Meanwhile, the Liverpool trainer had daubed ‘Relax’ with the magic sponge and it got off the sub’s bench to re-enter the Hot 100 in mid-January, finally reaching the Top 20 last week, having taken nearly a year to do so.
